Advances in Technology

Digital Radiography

Dental X-rays are an essential part of quality endodontic therapy. Our office is now taking x-rays using sensors that instantly transmit the radiographic image of your tooth directly onto a chair side computer screen. This is an advanced non-film dental imaging system known as CDR (computed dental radiography). The already low radiation required for dental radiographs is further reduced by over 80% compared to conventional film-based radiography.  These digital images can then be enlarged and enhanced to aid in diagnosis and treatment of your tooth.  They can also be optimized, printed, archived indefinitely, and sent to your dentist via e-mail.

Operating Microscope

We utilize a special operating microscope during your treatment. Magnification and fiber optic illumination are helpful in aiding the doctor to see the tiny details inside your tooth, often visualizing the source of infection. This allows for rapid and thorough treatment of even the most complex teeth. The operating microscope can also be used to record images of your tooth and communicate additional information to your general dentist.

Ultrasonics

Each operatory is equipped with sophisticated ultrasonic units.  These advanced devices use a diamond coated microscopic tip to vibrate small instruments to help clean the canal, aid in the search for extra or calcified canals and remove canal obstructions.

Nickel-Titanium Rotary Instruments

A new generation of endodontic instruments have replaced stainless steel. Made from an alloy of nickel and titanium, these new instruments have greater flexibility and resistance to fracture as compared to stainless steel. These properties allow the instruments to follow the intricate curves of the root canal, resulting in predictable, efficient, and rapid cleaning and shaping of these canals.  These devices are placed into the root canal with a liquid antimicrobial agent to help remove all traces of bacteria and tissue.

Electric Handpieces

Along with these new nickel-titanium rotary instruments, endodontic therapy has seen the advent of electric motor handpieces. These handpieces are virtually silent, which can decrease the anxiety of treatment.

Apex Locators

We utilize advanced electronic root-length measuring technology to ensure accuracy of instrumentation. These devices work by calculating resistance of tooth structure to provide a visual and audible signal indicating precise root length.
